Take a look at how our room at the
ARF designer showhouse ended up.
Zoe, who designed the room, took inspiration from the existing wall color which was a bright persimmon or even a dull Hermes orange, & the set of Mitchell Gold Upholstery, The London sofa and 2 armchairs in a pale linen mix called "Lingo Ecru"
Whilst Zoe liked the existing wall color, she felt it a little over powering for a complete room, and looked for a way to tone it down, either with adding a stripe or design, or using a wall paper...in the end deciding on using a collection of vintage NY Times Newspapers. c 1930 and 1940
This background then meant Zoe could scout for pieces that complemented her look, ie, gold tones mixed with earthy neutrals and texture woven pieces..
All pieces were donated by ECA suppliers, and chosen by Zoe
Battery Operated Candles with a remote control!
A pair of small Antique Mexican chairs (found at ARF!) were perfect rustic details that gave the room
some depth and character

Meyer Shapiro called Chagall (1887-1985) one of the greatest

most of all, compassion for the characters.

all are signed by the artist and are in limited editions of 50.

In 1930 he was commissioned by Vollard, a Paris
art dealer, to produce a series of illustrations
based upon Bible stories. Chagall travelled to
Palestine in search of inspiration, but the project
was a lengthy one, interrupted by World War II,
and was not eventually completed until the early
Currently on show at New York's Jewish Museum is a show dedicated to the time during WWII & how it influenced his art.

ENGLISH COUNTRY ANTIQUES &
STEVEN GAMBREL DECORATE
2013 saw the completion of the WATCHCASE apartments in Sag Harbor. A former manufacturing plant has been transformed into 64 luxury apartments.
The showcase apartment was recently opened to the public, the interiors having been conceived by Steven Gambrel, of S.R Gambrel.
Steven has been a long time client of English Country Antiques, & came to us when he needed lighting, antiques and accessories to complement his own upholstery line
Steven has created an eclectic modern interior with his mixture of early and mid century pieces, his luxurious upholstered beds, sofas and chairs, and bold patterned window furnishings.
Steven chose some industrial style pieces, in a variety of metals and finishes, and the architects have left reminders of the buildings past in the brick walls and large factory style windows.
Antique Zinc Filing Boxes, Wire Birdcages and a metal hat box,
